Overview
SNBTS requires to attain supplies of Red Cell Reagents compatible with automated technology and is for the anti body detection and identification only and not equipment or accessory devices. Antibody detection and ID, ABO/Rh typing and phenotyping is performed in SNBTS on samples taken from patients and donors.
Initial testing on Donors for Anti body detection and ID and ABO/Rh typing is by large scale automated blood grouping systems; currently Beckman PK7300 and Phenotyping of Donors is performed manually and on automated systems. Testing of patient samples is performed at sites located at sites in Scotland (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Inverness, and Aberdeen).
Samples referred from hospitals and internal laboratories are tested using both manual and automated systems. A selected number of donor and patient samples are also tested manually and on the Grifols Erytra and Eflexis blood group analysers.

SNBTS performs antibody detection and identification, ABO/Rh typing, and phenotyping on samples from both patients and donors. Initial donor testing for antibody detection and identification, together with ABO/Rh typing, is carried out using large-scale automated blood grouping systems, currently the Beckman PK7400.
Donor phenotyping is undertaken using both manual and automated methods and is currently performed in Jack Copland Centre (JCC) on the Heriot-Watt campus in Edinburgh and the patient sample testing is carried out across Scotland: Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Inverness, and Aberdeen. Samples referred from hospitals and internal laboratories are tested using both manual and automated systems.
A selected number of donor and patient samples are also tested manually and on the Grifols Erytra and Eflexis blood group analysers. The tender will cover both areas in SNBTS that require reagents (Clinical and Donor Testing) and will be used by all locations of SNBTS (Jack Copland Centre, Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen & Inverness).
