How to Read This Tender
- 1This is a straightforward service contract, not a complex project — focus on understanding the cleaning frequencies and building specifications in Appendix A, which you must request or download.
- 2Look for the contract duration, start date, and payment terms in the full tender documents — they're not mentioned in this summary.
- 3The reference to 'sustainability' and 'community wellbeing' suggests the Council may score bids on social value — check if they ask about environmentally friendly products, local employment, or community benefits.
- 4Appendix A is critical — it will list all six buildings, how often each needs cleaning (daily, weekly, etc.), and any special requirements (e.g. carpet cleaning, kitchen facilities). Get this before you bid.
- 5Watch for insurance and liability requirements — councils typically require public liability cover and may ask about staff training or background checks.
Tips for Small Businesses
- Consider partnering with a larger cleaning firm or subcontracting to share the workload if six buildings feels too much — many councils accept this if the main contractor remains responsible.
- Ask the Council upfront what 'sustainability' means to them — do they want eco-friendly cleaning products, waste reduction targets, or staff paid at the living wage? Scoring well here can win the contract even if you're not the cheapest.
- Request the full tender pack immediately, including Appendix A, contract terms, and the evaluation criteria — don't bid without knowing exactly which buildings, their size, and cleaning frequencies.
