AI Analysis

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (and optionally NHS Golden Jubilee and NHS Lanarkshire) need qualified asbestos surveying and testing consultants. You'd be on a framework agreement for 3 years (potentially extending 1 year) to provide surveys and lab analysis of asbestos in NHS buildings as needed, with an estimated budget of around £250,000 per year.
Requirements
- Suitably qualified consultants (specific qualifications not detailed in this notice — check full tender documents for required certifications, likely including BOHS or similar asbestos surveying qualifications)
- Demonstrated competence and experience in asbestos surveying and analytical services
- Ability to handle complex, large building portfolios
- Capability to support NHS through comprehensive and demanding service delivery
- No specific performance bond or insurance mentioned in this notice — check full tender documents
Key Tasks & Deliverables
- Conduct asbestos surveys across NHS GG&C building estate (hospitals, clinics, facilities)
- Collect and analyse asbestos samples from suspect materials in buildings
- Provide analytical/laboratory testing results for asbestos identification
- Support NHS GG&C in understanding asbestos risks across their property portfolio
- Respond to ad-hoc survey requests from the NHS as buildings are developed, refurbished, or demolished
How to Read This Tender
- 1This is a 'framework agreement' — not a fixed contract. You're pre-approved to do work, but NHS only calls you when needed. The £250k/year is estimated spend, not guaranteed. You might get more or less (they've built in a 50% tolerance either way).
- 2Watch the value tolerance carefully: estimated £250k/year could realistically be £125k–£375k/year depending on their actual needs. Budget your costs with this uncertainty in mind.
- 3Three years is the main term, but there's a 1-year extension option at the end. The NHS can choose to extend or re-tender — nothing's guaranteed beyond 36 months.
- 4Check the full tender documents for specific technical qualifications required (likely BOHS Level 3 in asbestos surveying or equivalent, UKAS accreditation for lab work, HSE registration).
- 5This is a service contract, not supply-and-install. You're providing expertise and reports, not physical materials or remediation work.
Tips for Small Businesses
- If you're a small surveying firm, consider partnering with a larger consultancy or lab for sample analysis — you can sub out the analytical side while managing the surveying relationships with NHS.
- The 36-month term is attractive for cash flow planning — this is a stable, long-term relationship if you win it. Build your resourcing plan assuming the low end (£125k/year) to be safe, then scale up if call-off volumes increase.
- Check whether NHS GG&C scores 'social value' in their award criteria (common in NHS procurement). If so, highlight local employment, community benefits, or supporting NHS staff development in your bid.
