Overview
The West Midlands Strategic Migration Partnership (WMSMP) works with national, regional and local partners to ensure that the region can deal with, and benefit from, migration. We are hosted by Birmingham City Council.
For migrants and new arrivals, English language skills are central to integration into British society and the local labour market. Having a strategic framework to support the development of these skills can 'help to unlock migrant capabilities, save costs to public services in the long term and promote a more integrated and socially cohesive society' (Demos, 2014).
WMSMP is commissioning a regional mapping and coordination project for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) provision in the West Midlands. It is expected that the successful applicant/s will map ESOL provision across the region and be able to estimate the needs of resettled adults, using pre-arrivals data.
