Overview
Birmingham City Council (the Council) is seeking to appoint an organisation for the provision of Tourism & Hospitality Skills Bootcamp Pilot. It has been identified by VisitEngland (the national tourist board) that one of the most significant challenges faced by tourism businesses is the recruitment and retention of staff.
This was heightened by the impacts of COVID-19 and with the UK leaving the European Union. Considering tourism businesses’ ability to recruit staff, the lack of foundational people skills is perceived as the biggest challenge tourism businesses face.
This was closely followed by management and leadership skills, when it comes to businesses' ability to deliver good service. Working with volunteers is another area that could be improved as some parts of the tourism sector are reliant on them.
