Overview
Naloxone is the emergency antidote for an overdose caused by heroin or other opiates or opioids, such a methadone, morphine or fentanyl. The main life-threatening effect of heroin and other opioids is overdose, which causes a severely reduced respiratory rate, leading to severe hypoxia, which if not treated as an emergency can be fatal. Naloxone blocks the effects of opioids and reverses the respiratory depression.This contract is for Derbyshire Community Pharmacies, who are currently contracted to provide Supervised Consumption and Needle Exchange Services, to provide the provision of Take Home Naloxone Service on a rolling contract commencing 01 April 2024 for a period of 12 months and will continue (subject to available funding).
