By combining inspirational teaching, world-class research and the latest thinking in the professions, we create a continuous and fruitful exchange of knowledge that stimulates new ideas, learning and thought-leadership.
Bournemouth University has its origins in the early part of the 20th century with the foundation of the former Bournemouth Municipal College. Our modern history began in the 1970s with the creation of the Bournemouth College of Technology.
Construction of the new buildings on what was the largest farm in Talbot Village, and is now Bournemouth University’s Talbot Campus, was completed by September 1976. The College was renamed the Dorset Institute of Higher Education and, in 1990, was designated Bournemouth Polytechnic.
