Overview
The London Borough of Sutton (Sutton Council) is seeking quotations from suitably qualified organisations to undertake Conservation of Edwardian Glass Plate Negatives. The Past on Glass is a digitisation project based in the Central Library, Sutton.
In 2014 we received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to clean, rehouse, digitise, catalogue, research and conserve in excess of 10,000 Edwardian glass plate negatives. We are now at the stage of procuring the conservation of those plates most at risk.
The plates vary in size from quarter plates to 10x12 inches with the largest plates the most in need of conservation. The contract will cover the time required to undertake the conservation of the volume of the glass plate negatives agreed, but it is anticipated that the work will be completed in the autumn of 2016.
