Additional details

We are looking to go out to tender in March 2016. The Local Authority and the Clinical Commissioning Groups is legally required to provide equipment to meet the health and social care needs of Cheshire in a community setting.

The Local Authority and the Clinical Commissioning Groups are also legally required to provide equipment to meet the health and social care needs of its population, and this means both parties have a shared interest in the management and distribution of equipment. Equipment provision spans clinical pathways, hospital discharge, reablement and aspects of social care.

Community equipment supports independent daily living, includes equipment such as walking frames, beds, hoists and commodes. Choicequip is commissioned via a six-way Cheshire Partnership with Cheshire East Council, Cheshire West and Chester Council, Eastern Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group, South Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group, Vale Royal Clinical Commissioning Group and West Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group.

Equipment is provided ordered via healthcare professionals (Prescribers) from both these areas, including district nurses and local hospitals. The provision and commissioning of the equipment is administered and managed through an office function called ‘Choicequip’ which is hosted by Cheshire East Council.

Supplier Service – provides complex daily living equipment including Beds, Pressure relieving Mattresses, Hoists, Slings, Mattress Variators, Turners and Bathlifts This service element is accessed via prescribers from each organisation who undertake an assessment of individual need. These items are loaned to individuals however are maintained by the supplier who delivered them during office hours Monday to Friday including a 4 hour out of hours service.
