Overview
This work forms part of the Whitechapel Road Improvement Programme (WRIP) which continues to see significant investment in the public spaces around Whitechapel, market, and associated infrastructure, to create the best possible environment for local communities.A market stall prototype has been trialled on Whitechapel Road’s northern footway successfully for several months, and feedback collected from a large range of stakeholders (including the traders themselves) has informed the final design/functionality of the market stall design. This will have a positive impact on the market for all – it will be easier for the Markets Team to manage, it will be a better environment for market traders to sell their products, and it will provide a more spacious, clean and attractive shopping destination for marketgoers. There will be disruption to the public realm and market pitches on the northern footway of Whitechapel Road as the new stalls are installed. Delivery will take place in phases to ensure traders can be relocated to other areas of the market and not disrupt their ability to trade. The production and installation of these market stalls is specialised, technical work. It is expected that the full period of fabrication to installation could take up to 9months.
