Overview

The CQC (the Care Quality Commission) is undertaking a piece of work to improve the way it regulates and monitors services that may be closed cultures. We want to work in collaboration with people who use services to develop these changes.

A closed culture is a poor culture which has an increased risk of harm - including abuse and human rights breaches. This can be deliberate or unintentional - either way it can cause unacceptable harm to a person and their loved ones.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator for health and social care services in England. We monitor, inspect and regulate services to make sure they meet fundamental standards of quality and safety and we publish what we find including performance ratings to help people choose care.
