ECMWF, as the entrusted entity for the implementation of the Contribution Agreement between the European Commission and ECMWF number 700002511 in respect of "Strengthening Early Warning in Africa (SEWA) and African Centres of Excellence on Climate Change Resilience (ArcX) – ECMWF" invites applications under the Call for Proposals “SEWA Regional Pilots on Impact-Based Forecast Tools and Services in Support of Early Warning” (SEWA RP). Strengthening Early Warning in Africa (SEWA) is an Action of the Africa-EU Space Partnership Programme (AESPP), which aims to enhance strategic cooperation between Africa and Europe on the use of space-based technologies, applications, and related services in Sub-Saharan Africa.
AESPP is financed under the Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument – Global Europe (NDICI–Global Europe), which is the European Union’s (EU’s) main financial instrument for external action during the period 2021–2027. Under the Call, four Grants will be awarded for the co-creation of regional pilot “demonstrators”, in which pre-operational Impact-based Forecast (IbF) tools and services are embedded within workflows supporting early warning in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The pilots shall be developed across four regions of Sub-Saharan Africa. It is envisaged that one Grant will be awarded for each of the following regions: Western Africa, Central Africa, Eastern Africa, and Southern Africa, including the Indian Ocean Islands: - 2026_SEWA_G233 – Western Africa - 2026_SEWA_G233 – Central Africa - 2026_SEWA_G233 – Eastern Africa - 2026_SEWA_G233 – Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands To apply for each of the four regions, Applicants should use the relevant link provided in the Submission Portal.
