Overview

The University of Sheffield is out to tender on behalf of the Department of Mechanical Engineering for an Environmental Chamber The Laboratory for Verification and Validation (LVV) will be a new facility providing a unique capability for vibration and acoustic testing of substantial structures, sub-structures and components under environmentally realistic conditions. The environmental chamber within the LVV will be unique due to its size and versatility in environmental and vibrational experimental capabilities.

The central component will be the large volume walk-in complex with the ability to control temperature (-55ºC to 50ºC), humidity (10-80%), wind (0-50 mph) and to simulate rain and, potentially, snow. Facilities required in the Environmental Chamber include a a 3-axis hydraulic shake table with two further, mobile single-axis electrodynamic shakers being provided for use in any of the chambers; this will allow the full range of dynamic and acoustic testing planned for the chamber.

All of the integrated vibration equipment will need to be properly protected against water ingress and extremes of temperature in order to be compatible with the chamber’s operation The full technical specification can be found in the ITN1 draft tender documentation which will be sent to you once you have expressed your interest. This tender is being conducted under the EU Competitive procedure with Negotiation. Interested suppliers should complete and return the initial Pre qualification questionnaire through the in-tend system by 5th January 2016.
