How to Read This Tender
- 1This is a strategic leadership role, not a delivery role — you're managing other people's projects, not delivering services directly. Focus on whether you have the relationships and credibility to convene and oversee, not just technical skills.
- 2The 'three shifts in NHS plans' is NHS jargon you'll need to understand before bidding — it refers to NHS Long Term Plan priorities (prevention, community-based care, integration). The full tender documents will explain what innovation they expect you to encourage.
- 3Look carefully at the 'Dependencies and Interfaces' section — this role touches almost every part of Dorset's health system. Assess honestly whether you have relationships or access to all these groups. If not, consider a consortium approach.
- 4The governance and KPI sections are critical — this role is about accountability and reporting monthly to NHS bodies. Ensure you understand what 'value for money', 'administrative burden reduction', and 'cost avoidance' mean in this context by reviewing the full specification.
- 5The start date is 1 April 2026 (over a year away) — this suggests the tender timeline is lengthy. Budget time for a detailed procurement process and allow for a handover period if you're replacing an existing coordinator.
Tips for Small Businesses
- Consider a consortium bid if you're strong on primary care relationships but lack community sector or local authority connections — partner with a VCSE organisation or community provider who has those relationships, and you coordinate the bid. This significantly strengthens credibility.
- This is a single coordinator role, so it's likely a small team contract (possibly just one person or one person plus admin support). If you're a sole trader or micro-business with strong Dorset health system networks, this could be ideal — but check if the commissioner expects a larger organisation behind you by reviewing their evaluation criteria carefully.
- The role emphasises 'local' credibility and relationships repeatedly — use your bid to demonstrate specific, named relationships with PCNs, GP practices, and local partners in Dorset. Generic statements about partnership working will not score well. Include evidence of past successful collaboration.
