As part of the engagement events we are currently undertaking, we are offering contractors the opportunity to gain GRO certification (The Green Roof Organisation) through an in-person, one day course in Port Talbot.
Spaces are limited and are on a first come first served basis. The course is likely to take place at the end of June (finalised date to be confirmed).
The course is suitable for roofers or landscapers who are looking to broaden their practical knowledge on green roofs. Please note this course is free of charge. Closing date to register an interest is: Friday 15th May at 2pm.

How to Read This Tender
- 1This is not a traditional contract — it's a free training opportunity, not a paid procurement. The 'closing date' is simply when they stop accepting registrations, not when bids are due.
- 2The phrase 'first come first served' means spaces fill quickly; email immediately if interested rather than waiting.
- 3Check your email carefully after registering — the council will confirm the exact course date (end of June) once finalised.
- 4GRO certification is a recognised industry qualification; check the Green Roof Organisation website to understand what this certification covers and its value to your business.
- 5This is a soft-skills/professional development opportunity rather than a service contract — there's no scope of work to price or deliver afterwards.
Tips for Small Businesses
- Register early (don't wait until 14th May) as spaces are limited and first-come, first-served. A quick email costs nothing and secures your place.
- If you're a roofer or landscaper, this training could help you win future green roof contracts with councils and private clients — it's a low-risk way to add a new service line to your business.
- After certification, consider whether this opens doors to other council 'green infrastructure' or 'nature recovery' projects in Wales that may require GRO-certified contractors.
